Goodbye anxiety …
HELLO FREEDOM
Find out how I can help.
Generalised Anxiety Disorder.
Anxiety presents itself in many different ways, for many different reasons, and can affect anyone. We’ve all probably experienced nerves before an important presentation, job interview or exam etc (and this is perfectly normal), but for some of us, anxiety can completely dominate our existence, prevent us from fulfilling our potential and stop us living a full and happy life.
Panic attacks, irritability, lack of confidence, low self-esteem and IBS are all signs of anxiety, and sometimes it manifests itself into other behaviours such as hair pulling, nail biting, OCD and poor sleep.
Anxiety is caused by negative thinking, but it’s not the events in our lives that necessarily cause the perception of crisis, it’s our thought patterns surrounding the events of our life.
When our anxiety goes up (and it can be a gradual process), we lose intellectual control to a greater or lesser degree, and the part of our brain responsible for our fight or flight response, steps in, thinking it’s keeping us safe, even if we’re just trying to go about our normal, everyday business.

HOW CAN SFH HELP?
But I have good news! Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy can help. I work with you to alleviate your anxiety, build a positive mindset and create more optimistic thought patterns, so you can move forward with your life in a calm and relaxed way.
HOW CAN KINETIC SHIFT HELP?
Kinetic Shift works by addressing the deeper mind, and not the cognitive or thinking part of the brain that can conceal, suppress or even lie. Because we cannot always express how we feel verbally, Kinetic Shift uses several other methods of communication which can produce transformational results.
HOW CAN IEMT HELP?
Integral Eye Movement therapy (IEMT) works by utilising the natural eye movements we make when locating difficult memories, and by doing so, alleviates any negative or challenging thoughts and emotions that may surround them
Stress
Life presents us with many challenges. Even though it may feel stressful at the time, it is a very normal reaction to difficult circumstances … but when does it become problematic?
Well if we find ourselves no longer being able to work through demanding situations such as an argument with a loved one, dealing with an angry customer at work, driving on a busy motorway or coping with the demands of being a parent. Of course, we all find different circumstances stressful because we all have different tolerances and triggers … but when things all become too much, we have one thing in common … the inability to overcome stress.
We may start to experience mood swings, an inability to control our emotions or even physical symptoms such as frequently falling ill, grinding our teeth at night (bruxism) or trouble sleeping. And sometimes we don’t really notice it until there are multiple factors all affecting our quality of life.
HOW CAN SFH HELP?
However, the good news is that Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy can bring you relief by helping you discover effective coping mechanisms, building a positive mindset and visualising your preferred future so you are able to successfully manage challenging situations and alleviate stress.

Low Mood / Depression.
Many of us will have experienced feelings of unhappiness and being fed up – but depression is more than just a low mood and can be a debilitating, complex disorder, manifesting in various ways and leaving you unable to function.
1 in 4 Britons suffer with mental health problems with depression being one of the most common, along with stress and anxiety and habitual negative thinking. In fact recent research suggests that depression is actually a particular way of thinking rather than a chemical imbalance as was previously thought.
Irrespective of the cause, symptoms can include withdrawing socially, loss of interest in anything and everything, lack of motivation to do the things that usually being you joy, feeling exhausted all the time, poor sleep, loss of libido, negative thought patterns and feelings of despair.
HOW CAN SFH HELP?
Of course, some severe cases of depression may require medication and the involvement of a GP, but it does respond very well to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Through a powerful combination of hypnosis, NLP and psychotherapy I help you focus on your inner resources to help create natural positive change.
SFH is an empowering process, helping you re-discover your confidence, adjust your thought patterns so you have a more positive outlook, help you find new ways of thinking, and even show you how to produce more ‘happy hormones’ (serotonin).

OCD
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
OCD is a distressing condition caused by high levels of anxiety. The negative thoughts and repetitive behaviours which accompany OCD often impact everyday life.
In an attempt to alleviate the anxiety, OCD forces the sufferer to perform certain ‘rituals’ for example repeatedly checking that the oven is turned off to avoid an electrical fault or washing hands excessively due to fear of germs. However, any relief felt by performing these rigid routines is often short-lived as the negative thinking returns, the anxiety rises, and so the cycle begins again.
Even though OCD can be exhausting, those that suffer with it feel powerless to stop which in turn can lead to feelings of guilt, shame and frustration which exacerbate the underling anxiety and makes the situation worse.
HOW CAN SFH HELP?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps those living with OCD by addressing the underlying anxiety causing the negative thought patterns and behaviours and by doing so, enables them to build a calmer, more positive future.

IBS.
IF YOU’RE ONE OF THE MANY PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS), YOU KNOW HOW THE SYMPTOMS CAN DISRUPT YOUR LIFE AS WELL AS CAUSE YOU EXTREME DISCOMFORT AND EMBARRASSMENT.
The symptoms – abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation – can be painful and interfere with your quality of life.
Conventional treatments for IBS often focus on managing symptoms, but they don’t address the root cause of the problem: oversensitive nerves in the gut. But there is hope.
Hypnotherapy for IBS is a step-by-step protocol that targets this miscommunication between the gut and brain. Studies have shown that hypnotherapy is an effective treatment for IBS, providing long-lasting relief from symptoms.
This statement from, Tan, G., Hammond, D. C., & Gurrala, J. (2005). Hypnosis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Review of Efficacy and Mechanism of Action. American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, 47(3), 161–178, summarises it well:
“When evaluated according to the efficacy guidelines of the Clinical Psychology Division of American Psychological Association, the use of hypnosis with IBS qualifies for the highest level of acceptance as being both efficacious and specific.”
HOW CAN SFH HELP?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you address the miscommunication between the gut and brain, providing long-lasting relief and even complete remission of your symptoms.
Learning how to address the source of your symptoms, so you can finally break free from the cycle of pain and anxiety associated with IBS. This natural and holistic approach to treating IBS can fully resolve stress-related IBS and improve your quality of life.

Fears & Phobias
The NHS describes a phobia as follows: “A phobia is an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal” and 12% of the UK population, which equates to approximately 7.2 million people are suffering with them.
Phobias are more pronounced than fears and although they are linked to our primitive survival response, they are created by negative templates that are stored in the sub-conscious mind and they develop when a person has an exaggerated or irrational sense of danger about a situation or object. In reality, they serve no purpose but if severe enough, they can negatively impact your life. As well as restricting day-to-day activities, they can also cause a lot of distress resulting in panic attacks and severe anxiety.
There are 2 different kinds of phobias – simple and complex. Simple phobias refer to fear around a singular object, animal, situation or activity. However, complex phobias are often multi-layered and more disabling than a simple phobia and usually develop during adulthood.
HOW CAN SFH HELP?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses an effective combination of hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to remove the negative template stored in the sub-conscious and replaces it with a positive response to any given situation. Simple phobias usually require about 4 sessions, whereas complex phobias may require more.

Lack of confidence / Low self esteem.
Having a lack of confidence can affect all areas of your life from relationships to work, from your social life to sports performance and can be linked to self-limiting beliefs, low self-esteem and low self-worth. A lack of confidence can skew your view of yourself, may prevent you from reaching your potential, affect your enjoyment of life and can keep you in a negative cycle of self-doubt.
Some people feel they have always struggled with a lack of confidence; however, others may say they ‘lost’ theirs after a certain life event or situation.
Confidence is about having belief in yourself, having faith in your talents, abilities and strengths; it’s really an attitude towards ourselves, so with encouragement we can access that inner confidence and if you think of it like a muscle, confidence can be built up.

HOW CAN SFH HELP?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is an effective way of accessing your inner confidence, by helping you focus on your strengths – on what you can do, rather than what you can’t. It helps you to replace negative thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours with more positive ones and shows you that you can overcome the negative inner dialogue so you can live your life to the full.

Trauma (PTSD)
IT IS ESTIMATED THAT ABOUT 1 IN EVERY 3 ADULTS HAS EXPERIENCED AT LEAST ONE TRAUMATIC INCIDENT OR EVENT IN THEIR LIFE. HOWEVER, THE MORE WE LEARN ABOUT TRAUMA, THE MORE WE REALISE THAT IN FACT THAT STATISTIC COULD BE HIGHER.
Trauma can be a one-off, single event such as a serious road accident, natural disaster or severe illness. Or it can be a severe and prolonged experience such as childhood abuse/neglect, domestic violence, bullying and military or emergency service work. But similarly, trauma can also be the result of a seemingly ‘minor’ event because people experience life differently.
When you experience a traumatic event, your body will automatically react in a certain way in order to keep you safe. This is in fact a stress response where you experience physiological changes due to the production of certain chemicals in the body. These stress hormones create a variety of physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, palpitations, increased sweating, raised blood pressure and loss of appetite/nausea as your body is prepared for an emergency.
In a traumatic situation, this response is understandable and is a coping mechanism inherited from our primitive ancestors, and after the initial shock many people will go on to recover naturally in time, but in some cases, this fight or flight response continues long after the traumatic event has passed, causing longer-term mental health issues such as post-traumatic distress disorder (PTSD).
Those who go on to develop PTSD can live in the past in a constant state of anxiety even if they were not physically injured. They can re-experience the event in flashbacks, suffer with lack of concentration, poor sleep and/or have nightmares. Certain sounds, smells, places, occasions etc can trigger unwanted feelings, emotions and behaviours and even initiate panic attacks. And some sufferers will go on to self-medicate with alcohol, food, drugs and other unhealthy behaviours to numb the pain and blot out the memories.
In the past it was thought that traditional talking therapies such as counselling and psychotherapy, where the person with PTSD spoke in length about the traumatic event, was the most effective way to treat sufferers, but our understanding of how trauma is experienced, processed and handled by the mind and body has now changed significantly, with talking therapies potentially re-traumatising sufferers.
HOW CAN SFH HELP?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses an effective combination of hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to update limiting beliefs, remove old patterns of behaviour stored in the unconscious mind and replaces it with a more positive behaviour. And by combining this work with Somatics (body work), unresolved emotions and the trauma response itself can be safely discharged from the body.

Integral Eye Movement therapy (IEMT) works by utilising the natural eye movements we make when locating difficult memories, and by doing so, alleviates any negative or challenging thoughts and emotions that may surround them.
IEMT also has a transformative approach to PTSD which can depotentiate flashbacks, ease negative memories and alleviate the grip of destructive emotions.

Unhealthy / Negative Habits
Habits come in all shapes and sizes – some are no more than a minor irritation, others perhaps unsightly or unpleasant … however, some can turn into full-blown addiction which impact every part of a person’s life including their relationships, career and health. And in some cases, they can even prove fatal.
More often than not, those struggling with any addiction or negative habit will have tried several times to give up … usually unsuccessfully.
This is because the substance or behaviour initially serves a purpose for us and provides us with solution to a perceived problem – maybe it alleviated social anxiety or distracted us from difficult emotions. However over time, the reward and relief we once felt when in indulging, turns into a destructive cycle that can take over and potentially destroy our lives.
HOW CAN SFH HELP?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can definitely help you change your addictive behaviours if you are ready and motivated to change. It can help you discover the underlying reasons for your behaviour, help you understand your triggers and overcome your cravings, whilst allowing you to access your inner strengths and start taking back control of your life.
