Anxiety
Anxiety presents itself in many different ways, for many different reasons, and can affect anyone. We’ve all probably experienced nerves before an important presentation, job interview or exam etc (and this is perfectly normal), but for some of us, anxiety can completely dominate our existence, prevent us from fulfilling our potential and stop us living a full and happy life.
Panic attacks, irritability, lack of confidence, low self-esteem and IBS are all signs of anxiety, and sometimes it manifests itself into other behaviours such as hair pulling, nail biting, OCD and poor sleep.
Anxiety is caused by negative thinking, but it’s not the events in our lives that necessarily cause the perception of crisis, it’s our thought patterns surrounding the events of our life.
When our anxiety goes up (and it can be a gradual process), we lose intellectual control to a greater or lesser degree, and the part of our brain responsible for our fight or flight response, steps in, thinking it’s keeping us safe, even if we’re just trying to go about our normal, everyday business.
