Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a combination of two highly effective therapeutic practices – psychotherapy and clinical hypnotherapy. It’s a blend of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and is a gentle tool to help you cope with life’s challenges. It’s scientifically and clinically proven to be an effective treatment for anxiety, stress and panic attacks, phobias, low mood, IBS, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, OCD and so much more.
This potent blend of therapies enables you to move forward with your life in a calm and relaxed way, alleviates any underlying anxiety and allows your mind to focus on making positive changes.
How do I work?
Before I explain how I work, I’d like to tell you a little bit more about the premise of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Personally, I think SFH could be described as a form of therapeutic coaching, as it looks at where you are now and then guides you how to get where you want to be by helping you access your own existing inner resources.
Although it acknowledges past experiences will influence your present and have possibly led you to where you are today, unlike many other talking therapies, it doesn’t require you to re-live painful events from the past in any great detail and allows you to focus on your positive and ideal future. And it’s the same for the other therapies that I offer.
Now I’m old school, so I really like to speak to any potential clients before working with them, so I encourage you to book a 15 minute Discovery Call (see button below) – or to pick up the phone and give me a call. We can then have a chat about what has prompted you to get in touch and I can tell you a little bit more about how I work and what you can expect.
After that, I will then book you in for a complementary Initial Consultation which lasts about an hour and is an opportunity for us to get know each other a little more and for you to ask any questions and expand on the issues you would like help with. I also explain how the brain works to enable you to understand why you might be struggling the way you are. We also discuss what other therapies I think you may benefit from you as I like to use a combination to ensure a bespoke, effective and long-lasting outcome.
Once the Initial Consultation has taken place, we then book you in for your first session and go from there. It is difficult to predict how many sessions you will need as everyone’s circumstances are different, but to give you an idea, fears and phobias can require up to 4 sessions, depression or anxiety may require up to 8 sessions and addictions will probably require 10+ sessions. However smoking cessation takes place in a single 2 hour session.
What is hypnosis?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines psychotherapy with hypnosis to facilitate ‘focused attention’ and as a consequence, positive change. This state of focused attention has also been described as ‘meditation with a goal’ and the ‘suspension of disbelief’, but what is hypnosis?
Well, hypnosis is a safe and natural state that allows the mind to process information effectively, rather like daydreaming. In fact, we slip into hypnosis several times a day without even realising it, such as when watching TV or driving somewhere familiar and then not remembering the journey.
A hypnotherapist uses hypnosis in a therapeutic setting in order to facilitate positive change but it is not something that is done ‘to you’ – you are actively participating and remain in control at all times. Its primary function is to enable the mind to be more responsive to beneficial suggestion, allowing you to focus on making positive change so you can move forward with your life.
And remember – stage hypnosis – the kind of thing you see on TV – is for entertainment purposes only and is NOT what happens in a hypnotherapy session!
Due to the current global pandemic all my sessions are conducted online regardless of the therapy. This is to obviously to keep both my clients and me safe and well. There will always be those who will prefer face to face sessions however I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that experiencing therapy online is as safe and effective as experiencing it in-person.
When we work online together, I have a duty of care to ensure your sessions are conducted safely and securely and I take that very seriously. I also have a comprehensive policy that I adhere to, which I share with you, along with Terms and Conditions etc.
Working together online is very easy and really only requires you to have a stable internet connection and privacy so you are able to speak freely, without worrying that others will be able to overhear you. For all therapies I need to be able to see from about your waist upwards and for IEMT, you need to have good lighting, but all this is explained when pertinent.
I prefer to work using Zoom video conferencing software as it is very reliable and encrypted, however, I am flexible and can conduct sessions using WhatsApp video and FaceTime. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can even be conducted via audio only.
